Fun game for all ages
A wide age range of kids were engaged with this activity. It's easy to set up, all self-directed. Recommended!
Whole lot of sortin' goin' on!!
So this is a fun activity that can be used in part paired with other activities or as whole as a standalone activity.
I have often used the activity when paired with the Pocket Solar System (http://clearinghouse.starnetlibraries.org/astronomy-and-space/229-pocket-solar-system.html) activity as a method to understand the scale of the solar system by looking at the "How Big?" and "How Far?" parts of the activity. I have also used the "How Hot?" portion to tie into a myriad of other lessons, whether it is parts of a star, weather phenomena (like lightning and its dangers), and earth sciences (especially planetary layers and volcanoes).
Overall, I find it a very useful activity when starting a series of lessons on a subject to get some inkling of the level of content knowledge my participants have. It also works as an outstanding ice breaker-type activity to keep in your back pocket if you have a quieter, more reserved group.
Perfect for Library Outreach!
The varying levels of difficulty in these games make them useful for any age group, easy to transport, and really engaging. My one concern is that the word "constellation" is misspelled on the Orion card, if anyone could fix that and reupload the file on here. Thanks for this!
