Easy filler

Kids tend to have experience with and really enjoy Mad Libs, so this is a very straightforward activity. The fact that it is on the computer so they have absolutely no idea where the stories are going adds to the fun. Of course, given the humor and fun involved, it's not a good fit for times when a quiet environment is needed However, it could be a great break from more concentration-intensive activities or at the end of the day.

After students complete their stories, possibly in groups of two, I might consider having one person read the silly version of their product, while another reads the factual one. This might increase the focus on the learning aspect a little more. Another extension could be to have students write their own two- to three- paragraph compositions, then convert those to a similar framework to swap with a partner to complete.
