UV Beads - States of Matter - Physical and Chemical Changes
Our library hosted a States of Matter session for 5-12 year olds. We had a variety of examples of how matter changes physically depending on physical and chemical stimuli.
We used the UV beads to demonstrate how an inanimate ojects (the beads) changes its appearance when we introduced the UV LED lights. We also used recipes for Oobleck, Fake Blood, and Slime to illustrate how kids can use household ingredients to create non-Newtonian fluids, and other substances. The kids who attended were amazed at the power that a small flashlight had on the beads.
Great Project for Early Elementary Students
We did this project over the summer at our library.
The children were very excited during the experiment. They enjoyed testing the beads using various creams and protectors.
I really enjoyed listening to them explain the project to their grownups.
